here are our children (our children in fur coats) we love them so much and they are all so different. buster and kitty stay with me and the "big dogs" as buster thinks of them stay with rocky. They love Mossy Lake. Spoonbill, the youngest lab stays in the lake all the time. She loves to swim and is such an athlete. She's been smoking Kitt at everything and has gotten so much better around people. With all of the people here with the building, i think it has really helped her. I really think something happened to her with our yard people in Alabama. She was fine, then a completely different dog that was scared to death of other people, especially men. Anyway, Molly is the Alpha, Kitt is the yellow that is so special and dear to us both. Buster is the bandana wearing beagle, and spoonbill then spoonbill the brown pup (Molly and Mossy's daughter) and then Shoaly-the rescue black cat who is much special and for a couple of years, thought he was a dog. Ole Miss painting party

This is my husbands idea of WORK. I was at work all morning and come home to this (they said they were taking a break-like a 4 hr break. Anyway, after 2 days of painting, we did get all the ceilings and walls primed with two coats. All we lack is color now. And, by the way, Hotty Toddy-Ole Miss won 31-30 vs Florida (#4 in the national at the time)!!! Go REBS. i hate that i have missed a lot this year because of work, but we are SO excited!!!!

today's updates

what a day-i'm glad it's coming to end and i am ready for a new start of a new day. the lodge is slowly coming along and i mean slowly. they were to be finished yesterday then today and i guess what they haven't finished, they will be working for free. this well is dry and i am so sick of being taken advantage of. Men should really think twice about taking advantage of me, because the next time i think its happening, i swear i am going to go crazy-psycho on them. ie: i went to pick up some wood and the man charged me 3x the price he had quoted rocky-his excuse: i didn't realize that was your wife. my response: then why did you put the receipt under my husbands name?

anyway, enjoy the pictures and paint colors are to come. i met the sweetest new client and she is also an interior decorator and has great tastes too. Heather, i really don't know you that well but thanks a ton. your input is very much appreciated and needed to help guide me in the right direction.

i forgot to add the photos of our four-legged kids. they are old and i need to get some more current, but will add them later. enjoy and don't forget to love your pet today and thank them for always loving you and no matter what you do to them, they are always so excited to see you and love you.

Pet Food Recall

As most of you know, i am a veterinarian and also a pet owner-5 exactly. I know that everyone has their own reasons for what they feed their pets. Over the past years (not many but enough to tell some stories) i have heard all sorts of excuses for what people feed their pets-ie: only boiled chicken-that's it doc, only boiled chicken. (the dog is puking its guts up with raging pancreatitis) but when i fry some for me, i take off the breading and its the same as boiled. just one of the many. i think that this will be my new way of venting some of the stupidest things people have said and done. Not saying that i don't have brain farts -like everyday-but come on, people sometimes its absolutely crazy. Anyway, back to the recall. The Pedigree brands produced in a Pennsylvania plant have found traces of Salmonella in some of the products manufactured at that particular plant. Other brands include my not so favorite-Ol'Roy, Members Mark (all walmart, by the way) and many others. I have not received an official email from the AVMA (american veterinary medical association) but our clinic did receive some information. try to google it if you are concerned.
At vet school, i had a wonderful patient that i took care of every night for about 4 weeks. He was a yellow lab named Luke from Florence, AL. He presented to use for the recall that was in 2006-i think it was diamond-dog food brand. Anyway, Luke and his sister-a yellow lab-name? quit eating their dry food-telling the owners that something was wrong. anyway, his parents mixed it with canned food and they started eating it. They both got really sick and his sister died on Christmas eve. he came to us a couple of days later. Needless to say, after many scares and platelet counts of one, he finally started eating my supper one night-Sweet Peppers Deli loaded potato soup's bread bowl. He loved it and he got several over the next few days before going home. I don't know what happen to him but i do know that he survived and luckily diamond paid his vet bill-$5000.00.

But back to my problem with "CHEAP" dog foods and cat foods: They are CRAP!!!! and a bunch of it. My husband did not believe me about this and thought i just loved to spend money and buy fancy dog food-by the way, I've never been at someones house and gone through their cabinets looking at what food they feed. But anyway, we had a challenge-we live in a patio home in Alabama. We don't do the yard-it's done for us each week. We however, have to pick up the pooh-so we feed his food for a month and mine (by the way, is Hill's Science Diet k-9 maintenance and sometimes small bites (their fav). We then weighed his pooh compared to mine and measure the difference. The RESULTS: it was a huge difference, his food they pooped out almost double what they did on mine and we had to feed more of his food. Meaning with the more expensive food, they got more nutrients and food rather than just passing it out their other end. And for my favorite brand, hill's s/d, it so far to my knowledge has never been listed in any of the recalls. I know that me personally, i would be devastated if i feed my kids something that would potentially kill them. So now we only buy my food now and my husband is so cheap, he squeaks when he walks. I love him much though and miss him too.
The cat food: i give rocky $20.00 to buy my cats food-i feed Purina pro-plan indoor turkey and rice. it comes in a nice container that has a lid and is much easier to use and also much harder for the kids to tear into. so, he comes home with this $4.00 bag of crap-literally-raising he$$ about how much 8 pounds of food cost-$20.00 by the way. So, two days into feeding this stuff, we start to smell something. Our whole house smells like something died literally. The house, the litter box, i mean it was freaking the cat and the dogs out too. It smelled like something crawled in the cat and died and was rotten. Needless to say, rocky threw that food away immediately and without saying anything, he comes home with the expensive food and says-"Don't every buy that $#*! again" and that's a big statement for my wonderful husband.

So, please whatever you do, think about your pets food before you buy it and don't buy based on price. i am attaching an old picture of my kids-enjoy!

Our Project

Well, if most of you don't know, Rocky and I are adding on to our lodge on Mossy Lake. (should i say a large addition). Anyway, i am really excited and can't wait to be finished just in time for duck season. We have done a good bit of work ourselves and i have learned a ton about building and really like it. I can't wait to build again. I'm really happy with how it has all turned out so far. We are still married through all of this-for now ;-). This is our second time to build so far, but i think we will make it without one of us dead or on Prozac-jk. I've had to work really hard to make it rustic and woodsy so it may not appeal to all. I do hope that when it is finished we could possibly be able to rent it out for small functions, weddings, parties, corp events. The only problem is the eyesore on the road that Crystal Downing posted on a bit ago. I am enjoying living back in the delta but really miss rocky and our big dogs. I will try to post more later-i am finally just learning how to do all of this.

Much thanks to my sister-Ashley for bringing her awesome saw and the rest of my family for helping me build my vanities-custom vanitys with the look that i want cost mega bucks that i can't afford to do, so i found a couple of designs and we are just winging it. they look awesome. i can't wait to get the tops and get them finished out.

First Blog

i hope that i am doing this right. i have found that the internet is a great way to keep up with everyone especially since we live away from home. if anyone has any suggestions and/or help, please let me know how to do all of this.
currently rocky and i are in muscle shoals, al and are running a restaurant. not exactly where i would have guessed i would be, but we are making it. we have 5 "kids"-molly-the alpha female chocolate lab, buster-the bandana wearing beagle something, kitt-the movie star-duck hunting girl, shoaley-our rescue black cat that wears a bandana also and lets not forget about spoonbill-great name (one of our most favorite ducks-ha,ha) the puppy that loves morgan city.
anyway, we have so much going on. we sold our old lodge and are building a brand new lodge. i am so excited and can't wait to get started in the next few weeks. we have compromised and finally got everything that we can possibly fit into the floor plan. i am planning on going back to veterinary work soon, so we'll see.
