A Monthly Trip
Some may call me old school, but I love my trip to the barber shop once a month. A lot of people think of Andy Griffith and Floyd The Barber when they think of a barber shop. There is probably more gossip done in a barber shop than any beauty shop, prayer meeting, or any place a group of women are gathered combined. I grew up getting my hair cut in Lexington, Ms at Zeigler's Barber Shop, so I am used to a man cutting my hair. Billy, my childhood barber, would get excited when someone had juicy gossip and start hooping and laughing like a monkey. I felt like a man's man those days going with my dad to get my hair cut even though I was a mere boy.
Most men these days opt to go to a beauty shop to let a woman cut their hair, but not me. One of the saddest things to me is seeing the old rolling barber pole that represents, a hair master inside, disappearing on main streets throughout the US.
My barber now now is Andy Inman of Inverness, Ms. He has become a friend of mine over the past twelve years. He is a good barber and just a good person to talk to about history of the Ms. Delta. Mr. Andy recently lost his wife to cancer and it has been even more important to me to go over and visit with him and get a cut. I never heard him, in twelve years even before she got sick, utter a negative word about his wife and it wasn't because he never talked about her. It is one his favorite subjects to talk about. One of the other reasons I like to go is he loves Ann Fleming and Taylor. I took Taylor recently to the shop with me and got a few shots of her and Mr. Andy.
