Easter 2011

The easter bunny did make it to our house this year and Ann Fleming was a bit surprised.

Easter this year was a little different this year than in years past with the loss of my Grandmother just a week before. Easter was one of her favorite holiday's along with Mother's Day. It was just different going to the house of one of my best friend's and her not being there to laugh with.

With all the secondary things of Easter let us not forget the real reason for Easter, Jesus and the price he paid for us on the cross and raising from the grave beating death! We hope we can instill this in our kids and one day pass it on to their kids. The greatest gift I believe you can pass on to your kids.

Can you guess my favorite food?

Ann Fleming loves eating spaghetti. She loves my Mom's and she ate some of Kelsey's famous spaghetti and meatballs the other night.

There is no place like Nana's!

Nana' house; there is only one thing that comes to mind when I say those words,. RELAXATION!! Let me explain myself better. I am not saying we go there and dump the babies on Nana and just lay around. There are a few things that make it feel so relaxing.

First,  I would have to say the coolness of sitting around outside. Nana has a sitting area on her back porch and around a swing in the yard that is shaded. The temp outside could be 100 degrees and it feel like it is 80 degrees in the shade. It is the nicest 100 degrees I have ever felt. The breeze is always blowing it seems. I guess it takes me back to when I was growing up and sitting in the shade at my own grandmother's.

Second, Nana always has something good to eat. Whenever we call and say we are coming, which we try to go a least once a month, except duck season, she will always ask what we want to eat. My favorite is her broccoli salad. I think I could eat just about every day. I don't think I have ever ate one of her deserts that was bad.

Third, It is the house of dominoes. I mean that in the sense of just about every time we go we play Mexican Train dominoes. It is a game of strategy trying to get rid of your dominoes before the rest of your competition does. Whatever dominoes they have left when you get rid of yours, they have to count them up as points. Whoever has the most points at the end is the loser.  Did I mention I love this game?

Fourth, I have never seen a more comfortable couch in the whole world, sitting under one of the most restful fans,  and in the coldest room in the whole world.

Last and not least, it is Nana herself. I have been telling Nana for a while now that she needed to put all of her wisdom into a book. It is amazing the home remedies and just general knowledge of things she has. She is a joy to sit around and talk to. I love to listen to stories of  her and Papa's family, because one day I hope to pass them along on to our children about their family. One thing I strongly believe in is "if you don't understand where you came from , then you won't understand where your going".  One thing about it is, our kids will not say when they get older their parents didn't try to get them to and spend time with their grandparent's. I can't leave out Ann Fleming loves Nana. It seems Ann Fleming reponds best to Nana and her Pi. Here are a few pictures from one of our last visits right before we had the baby.

Catfish Festival

I am having to go back and catch up some of this blogging. So bear with me as I go through some of the old post I started and I am just now getting back to. The Catfish Festival is a festival in Belzoni, Ms celebrating the production of catfish, and is a annual get together for each family in the Roy Long Family. Each year in the past we have usually been cooking and selling to visitors to the annual event, but this year being that Roy and Patti don't have the store anymore, made it a little easier for everyone to enjoy the festival. The unique thing also about this year was Kelsey the youngest sister in the family ran for Catfish Queen.

Royann, Ann Fleming and I attended the Queen party at Wister Gardens. Here are some pics from the Friday night party:

The next morning we all decided to walk in the 5k except Dennis, he ran the 5k.
We all won our respected divisions. I am here with Ann Fleming with my trophy.

Then there was the queen contest later on in the morning. Kelsey won the contest and we were all so proud of her. She has now one up'ed Royann and Ashley in another record. Her goal has always to one up Royann and Ashley and all of their records they set years ago.

It was a great weekend to share with family and friends. We were all so proud of Kelsey.

History In The Making

In my short time in life I have witnessed all kinds of records being broken. Records that they said would never be broken. I will never forget the night watching Mark McGuire breaking the single season home run record and saying "nobody will ever beat that" and then just a few years later watching Barry Bonds break it. I mean the list could go on and on and on. Records are set, but they are there to be beat. The one I never thought I would see in my lifetime is record crests being broken on the Ms. River. Most records were set in the "Great Flood of 1927"(notice I captilized it and put it in quotations). It was that great. It flooded the majority of the Ms. Delta while killing numerous people and completely destroying major towns. Royann (a.k.a. Little Hank Lamb) and I took our lunch break and rode over to the river to see what it looked like. Here are the pictures we took. The river looked like rapids, something you would see in the mountains, it was moving so fast. It is on the emergency levee's about six to eight feet.

First Coke

We were in Oxford a couple of weeks ago for baseball games and Kelsey was also there with a few of her friends. They had all gone to Zaxby's to get lunch and brought it back to the condo. Ann Fleming saw the drinks with the straws and wanted a drink. Camille Shelton, one of Kelsey's friends, asked me if she could have a drink and I asked her what was in the cup. Becuase with college kids you may never know whats in the cup. She informed me it was coke and Ann Fleming had never had a drink of coke before. So I decided to film her first drink of coke on camera and here was the result:
